Cancer is one of the most serious and leading causes of death worldwide. Many individuals incorporate natural and nutritious foods into their diets which can help prevent cancer and reduce other health risks. Although synthetic drugs are commonly used in cancer treatment and their effectiveness is often limited by drug resistance and adverse side effects. So, physicians and researchers are increasingly focusing on natural products to enhance efficacy of conventional cancer therapies and to minimize associated toxicities. A comprehensive literature search was conducted primarily in google scholar and was supplemented by searches in PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct using relevant keywords. We found that same natural product can inhibit multiple types of cancer and may also be used in combination with pharmaceutical drugs. Important fact is that many people are unaware of anticancer activities of natural products and their potential benefits. It is equally important to highlight limitations of conventional pharmaceutical treatments. So affordable yet valuable natural products should be recognized and further investigated for their therapeutic potential in cancer prevention and treatment. This study aims to discuss different types of cancer and their relationship with natural products as well as anticancer drugs. The main objective is to investigate activity of natural products against various cancer cell types and to compare their effectiveness with that of synthetic drugs used alone. This approach may help bridge traditional and modern treatments and contributing to advancement of cancer therapy in general.
