Nanocomposites are one form of nanomaterials. The porphyrin nucleus is an attractive skeleton to be functionalized with nanomaterials which can be further process to yield novel porphyrin nanocomposites. The latter is expected to posses novel properties. Porphyrin nanocomposites have found interesting applications in many realms such as antimicrobial agents, anti-tumor/anti-cancer agents, photodynamic therapy, drug discrimination, DNA detection, ascorbic acid sensing etc. The design, synthesis and application of porphyrin nanocomposites is increasing.
