Mood Disorders / Real Time fMRI Neurofeedback / Suicide · Interventional Study
ClinicalTrials.gov · August 10, 2026
Early or partial results. Treat as a signal, not a conclusion.
This is a completed but unpublished feasibility study of real-time fMRI neurofeedback targeting suicide-specific rumination in Veterans. The registry record contains no results, only study design and enrollment data. Clinical impact cannot be assessed until outcomes are reported.
Interventional, Single Group, Open label, Other purpose. Depression, Suicide, Mood Disorders; age from 18 Years; to 65 Years. Intervention: Real-time fMRI Neurofeedback. n = 16. 1 site: United States.

Safety was not reported in the material analysed. Check the source before drawing any conclusion about harm.
The source did not state who this applies to in practice.
This is a small, single-center feasibility study with no results reported; it tests acceptability and feasibility of a novel neurofeedback intervention in a highly specialized population.
As stated by the source record.
Quoted from the source exactly as published.
Graded across the dimensions that decide whether you should act, each from what the source actually supports. There is no single score, and where a dimension was not assessed it says so.
What is missing. This record has no key findings. That is a gap in the analysis, not a judgement about the study.
Registry record from ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT06481033). This is a study registration, not published results. Lead sponsor: VA Office of Research and Development. Recruitment status: COMPLETED. Phase: NA. Study type: INTERVENTIONAL. Enrollment: 16 participants (ACTUAL). Conditions: Depression, Suicide, Mood Disorders. Interventions: BEHAVIORAL: Real Time fMRI Neurofeedback. Primary outcome measures: Acceptability and Feasibility , Total score obtained 2 weeks following first real-time fMRI neurofeedback session.. Brief summary: Few treatments target core features of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in Veterans. Real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging neurofeedback can provide information regarding brain activation associated with suicide-specific rumination, defined as a "repetitive mental fixation on one's suicidal thoughts and intentions." The goal of this feasibility study is for Veterans to learn strategies for modulating activity within brain regions that have been demonstrated to contribute to the maintenance of rumination, as they receive neurofeedback feedback signals from the brain.
