BACKGROUND Obesity is associated with visceral fat accumulation, dyslipidemia, and chronic low-grade inflammation. Kefir and Moringa oleifera have been proposed as potential anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory agents through various metabolic and immunological mechanisms. However, the available preclinical evidence remains scattered and has not been systematically synthesized. Objective: This systematic review aimed to summarize the available evidence regarding the effects of kefir and Moringa oleifera on obesity- and inflammation-related parameters in experimental animal models. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines using PubMed as the primary bibliographic database, with supplementary searches of studies published through the MDPI and Nature publishing platforms. Of the 93 records identified, 11 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis, comprising five studies on kefir and six on Moringa oleifera. Results: Most included studies reported that kefir supplementation was associated with reductions in body weight, improvements in lipid profiles, and decreases in inflammatory biomarkers, including TNF-α and IL-6. Moringa oleifera demonstrated similar beneficial effects through antioxidant activity, regulation of metabolic-related genes, and attenuation of inflammatory responses. Nevertheless, substantial heterogeneity was observed regarding animal models, intervention types, dosages, treatment duration, and outcome measures. Conclusions: Current preclinical evidence suggests that kefir and Moringa oleifera individually have promising anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory properties. However, no included study directly evaluated their combined administration. Therefore, any potential synergistic effect should be considered a biologically plausible hypothesis that warrants further investigation rather than a conclusion supported by direct evidence.
