A consensus or society position rather than new primary data.
This is a narrative review synthesizing current knowledge on Nipah virus epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostics, and public health response. It identifies surveillance and countermeasure gaps and advocates for coordinated One Health approaches to reduce future outbreak risk, but presents no original data or quantitative evidence synthesis.
Journal article. Humans and animal reservoirs affected by Nipah virus spillover; no specific patient cohort studied.
Nipah virus belongs to genus Henipavirus, family Paramyxoviridae, first appeared in late 1990s Recurrent outbreaks marked by high case fatality rates and severe neurological and respiratory illness Lack of effective treatment options remains a critical gap
Safety was not reported in the material analysed. Check the source before drawing any conclusion about harm.
Clinicians and public health professionals should use this review to understand the current state of knowledge on Nipah virus threats, recognize gaps in diagnostic and therapeutic capacity, and support development of One Health coordination frameworks for outbreak prevention and response.
A comprehensive narrative review synthesizing existing knowledge on Nipah virus biology, epidemiology, and public health response, offering expert recommendations for coordinated One Health policies rather than reporting original research findings.
Clinicians and public health professionals should use this review to understand the current state of knowledge on Nipah virus threats, recognize gaps in diagnostic and therapeutic capacity, and support development of One Health coordination frameworks for outbreak prevention and response.
Graded across the dimensions that decide whether you should act, each from what the source actually supports. There is no single score, and where a dimension was not assessed it says so.
What is missing. This record has no reported figures. That is a gap in the analysis, not a judgement about the study.
An extremely dangerous zoonotic virus, the Nipah virus (NiV) belonging to the genus Henipavirus and family Paramyxoviridae continues to be a major threat to the world health. Recurrent outbreaks of NiV have been marked by high case fatality rates, severe neurological and respiratory illness, and a lack of effective treatment options since the virus first appeared in the late 1990s. The review offers an updated and comprehensive information on virus biology, epidemiology, transmission channels, clinical manifestations, diagnostic techniques, and public health consequences, conceptually taken from previous studies and the mass of information contained within. The growing significance of human-to-human transmission and an understanding of the ecological and anthropogenic factors underlying viral spillover are of special attention. In order to reduce the danger of future outbreaks, the analysis also identifies gaps in surveillance, diagnostics, and countermeasure development, highlighting the necessity of coordinated One Health policies.
